SEAT LEON
Hi, my name is Leon, and this is a SEAT - LEON Design concept.
The Seats DNA is intended to be young and trendy. And according to a study
by Verivox I found, they tend to have the youngest customers here in Germany.
But in my opinion, some of their Design languages do not reflect that.
Some time ago, I discovered that they changed their Model Designation Design,
located underneath the Logo on the rear of the car. And while I do like
the exterior and interior of their vehicles, I was not especially amazed by the
redesign. The script-like font seems rather inappropriate for the age group they are trying
to reach. It is no secret that VW owns Seat, as is Porsche, and it almost
looks as if they tried to take over the Porsche Model Designation.
The customers of Porsche and Seat are on entirely different ends of the spectrum.
Simplistic Product Design is not something only Designers and Artists enjoy.
This is reflected by the Household Products which become cleaner and more
pleasant to look at: like a Dyson Hairdryer or the KitchenAid. Therefore I do not
think a Script font was the decision.
Yet the move away from the previous Capital style is understandable as well.
So I began to simplify the existing Seat Logo slightly and, on top of that, created
an all-new Model Designation for the Seat Leon.
I chose not to go with an existing Font but rather create individual lettering.
The Lettering is dynamic and curvy. It also stays the same stroke width, like a
road or a racing track, which it is supposed to symbolize. Only the „O“ in
„Leon“ has disconnected, and everything is seemingly one continuous motion.
Flexibility, style, and energy are attributes describing the Seat LEON, from the
inside to the outside to the new Lettering.
This Design Study is also for a new, green more sustainable car. Possibly a
Hydrogen, electric, or hybrid vehicle. Thus the Lettering has green outlines, and I
replaced the exhaust pipes with an all carbon fiber diffuser in the 3D Model.
But for the new design, I needed a Canvas. So I began to try my first ever
Cinema4d x Redshift car model uses the existing Seat dimensions and slightly
changes the Design for a more sporty and confident look. The result should
suggest a more natural and organic Design.
I hope you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching!
